Each year, Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington, hosts their annual Linden Cup: a student-run oral appellate advocacy competition among their interested law students. The competition sees students prepare and present oral arguments to a panel of judges in a mock appellate trial. This year, two of the panel judges were none other than Luvera Law Firm attorneys George Ahrend and Mark Kamitomo.
“This competition has been going on since before I attended law school at Gonzaga back in the ‘80s,” said Kamitomo. “It’s truly been a treat to familiarize myself and engage with the next generation of prospective attorneys.”
Kamitomo was the winner of the Linden Cup in 1988, during his tenure at Gonzaga University School of Law. Ahrend is also a previous Linden Cup champion during his time at Gonzaga University School of Law in 1994.
“It was so great to be back at my alma mater, walking through the quad and seeing the young, eager minds repping their white and navy-blue attire,” said Ahrend. “I have so much respect for the thousands of law students across the country, especially those at Gonzaga, because I’ve been there. If I could judge this competition every year, I would in a heartbeat.”
